This photograph is part of the collection entitled ‘Urban’.
This photograph depicts one facade of a residential and commercial building in the heart of Singapore’s Chinatown. It is named the People’s Park Complex, and it was opened in 1973 on Eu Tong Sen Street. The building is, to this day, striking in contrast with the surrounding construction due to its Brutalist architecture. Bare concrete painted in bright shades of yellow, green and red catch the eye. This image captures the windows of all 25 habitable floors. In this mass we witness a semblant of individuality: windows tainted or untainted, barred or bare, curtains of all different colours. 600 windows into everyday life… Who knows how much longer the People’s Park Complex will tower above Chinatown?
