Collection: Garden City
Singapore is widely known for the abundant greenery throughout the urban areas. The term comes from the ‘Garden City movement’ in urban planning, first theorized in 1898 in England. The first Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew introduced the vision of Singapore as a Garden City in May of 1967. Greenery and absence of litter would provide a pleasant environment for citizens to live healthily, but also show Singapore as a well organized State, hence, suitable to foreign investment. These efforts were made with great success, and Singapore is known today as the ‘Garden City’. Green spaces in Singapore are extremely social areas. Indeed, at dawn and at dusk, the older generations take advantage of the cooler temperatures to do their daily exercise, like tai chi, qigong, dancing and so on. During the day, the parks stay just as busy, with families coming to picnic, yoga classes, team sports, kite flying and more.
