Collection: Last Goodbyes to a Founding Father
On March 23rd, 2015, the founding Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew passed away at 91 years of age. He was known in Singapore as the Father of the Nation, leading the country for over thirty years from 1959 to 1990. His passing was followed by a week of national mourning, lasting till his State funeral on March 29th, 2015. A private wake was first held at Sri Temasek, at the Prime Minister's private residence on Istana grounds. His body was then taken to the Parliament House for the laying in State. An estimate of 447,000 Citizens came to pay their respects at the Parliament house, and a total of 1.2 million people paid their respects in different mourning centers across the country, in addition to the thousands that watched the procession.
