Collection: Umbrellas
Singapore is located only one degree (111 kilometers) from the equator at its southernmost point, and very much enjoys an equatorial climate. High temperatures, heavy rainfall and the ensuing humidity characterize the islands’ weather year round. During monsoon season, the temperatures drop slightly, while rainfall increases drastically. The term ‘Monsoon’ is derived from the Arabic term ‘Mawsim’ meaning ‘season’. Due to this climate, umbrellas are a necessary part of daily life, either to protect from the rain, or the hot sun. However, during the heaviest rainfall periods, an umbrella is of little protection against the torrential downpour. Nevertheless, colorful umbrellas of all shapes and sizes are perhaps the most common accessory of daily life.
